The Edge Community Garden Grant Proposal

The Edge Foursquare Church has ~5 acres of flat land on a major highway. This grant would launch the start of a community garden, with room to grow. We have been hosting local BuyNothing Facebook groups (~1,000 members) where people “Buy Nothing, Give Freely, Share Creatively”. We also support a local food bank and a school food backpack program.

We would like our community garden to serve the community at-large by being a public run demonstration garden, to encourage community members to get their own GreenStalk Vertical Garden and share from their own abundance, to reach even more people.

These GreenStalks would be primarily salad garden planters and would include varieties of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, bok choi, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, everbearing strawberries, and cherry tomatoes, that people would regularly use for healthy meals.

Our community garden project manager owns a GreenStalk and has already been sharing the abundance it produces with the community. His experience with the GreenStalk Vertical Garden, growing up on a farm, and experience with raised beds caused him to realize that this would be the easiest and most productive way to do a community garden. They also help conserve on precious water resources compared to other methods.

Intentionally growing food to give away can help the local hunger crisis. This grant and the creation of a community garden would allow us to apply for other community garden grants, which would multiply the value of this initial grant and allow us to expand. We have a large field that could easily support crops like corn and vine crops that are less suitable to the GreenStalk Vertical Garden.

Please vote daily for us and share in this great opportunity to feed the hungry in our community.  Set up a reminder for yourself to do this every day to maximize your influence.
